Now I just have to figure out what a ‘tet’ is, or whatever it is that she’s saying.  I’ve listened to this multiple times as I was editing down the clip and still can’t decypher the word.  Somehow I doubt she’s referring to the Vietnamese New Year.

The Dumbing Down Of America (part II)

November 17, 2008

As I mentioned in a previous post I greatly fear things becoming like the movie Idiocracy.  Today I ran across further evidence that is only serving to bolster my concern.

Do Your Business Here Here’s something I saw in a local restaurant; looked like it was in bumper-sticker format. Not exactly something I want to be thinking about while I’m eating.

The Dumbing Down Of America

December 5, 2007

It sure seems that recently, particularly in the last few years, America is losing its smarts. I certainly hope that one day it doesn’t come to this. Everyday I find myself fighting through misuse of these classics: two, too, to & their, there, they’re. I’ve posted previously about wierd logical inconsistencies out there in the world and I found another one today that really got me thinking “freakin’ A what is going on?” I especially like the ones where people are trying to be more specific in an attempt to add clarity, prevent potential ambiguity, or both. Today it was this:

Fee Schedule
So of course my very first thought was “hmm, I guess I’ll just pay exactly $500.01 and that’ll be no fee at all.” And I just noticed another thing, which I may not normally notice but if you’re going to go to the trouble of adding “.01″ and “Greater than” elsewhere well now I’m noticing. Assuming I’m even able to set up a zero dollar transaction, does that afford me the opportunity to just pay $5 for the hell of it?
